Interview: Photographer Cedric Brion (Belgium)
Tell us something about yourself and how and when did you get into photography?
Cedric Brion aka Clavicule-pics, born in 1978. I am a self-taught photographer. As traveling was my passion, I first started to take pictures of landscapes. Then 2 years ago, I got interested in portrait photography. That’s also when I opened my studio in Mons (Bergen).
What does photography mean to you?
I like the idea of capturing the moment in one click. Playing with lights and shapes is a real pleasure to me.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I like taking shots of landscapes, portraits, architecture and I also like panorama stitching. But I must admit I am mostly attracted by pictures with a dark and gloomy atmosphere.
Where do you get inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from magazines, from other photographers’ work but above all from collaborating and discussing with my models: working together always gives rise to new, interesting ideas.
Think you in advance what you want in the picture?
Sometimes yes, but most of the time, I get inspiration while I am working.
Studio, on location or both?
In fact, I like both. It is a different pleasure but both bring me satisfaction.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I have been a part-time self-employed worker1 for 2 years. I really aim to make a living out of my passion.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
Most of the time, it is going very well, except once, when my flash and my tripod fell in the water L This is the only bad memory I have.
What has been the biggest source of inspiration in your work?
My first inspirations come from the shapes, the play of lights and the colors of nature. I also find inspiration in the work of some photographers like Vincent Munier, Lee Jeffries…
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I started photography with a Canon and I remain loyal to this brand. I like the 24-70,2.8 and the 70-200,2.8 of Canon.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Before wanting to become a professional, photography must be a passion before everything.
What do you think of our new magazine?
It is very interesting: the photos are splendid. It is a good way to promote artists.
