SUSHI IN A BOWL

Author: Camila Santamaria

I love sushi but making it is quite annoying because it takes too long.

I mean, if you get together with your friends and make sushi together that can be fun, don’t get me wrong.

But if you just need to have some sushi making a couple of rolls for yourself is not really worth it because of the time spended and because is hard to calculate the amount of ingredients only for one person.

Gohan in japanese means cooked rice. I’m not sure this is the correct way of naming this recipe and I’ve never been to Japan.

They do call it Gohan or Girashi in some sushi places I’ve been in Chile but I don’t want to screw it up so we’ll just call this recipe “sushi in a bowl” because it tastes like sushi but it’s in a plate.

Ingredients (2 portions)

– 1 cup of short and thick rice
– Rice or white vinegar
– 2 pieces of salmon or any kind of fish
– 1 pack of crabsticks
– 2 green onions
– 1 cup of cooked shrimps
– 1 avocado
– Sesame seeds

Step by step
Cook the rice as usual. When it’s done spread it in a flat surface to let it cool. Add rice vinegar and mix it up. If you don’t have rice vinegar you can mix white vinegar with some sugar and does the same job as rice vinegar.
Cut the fish, crabsticks and avocado in small squares. Chop the green onions.
Fill half of a small bowl with the rice. On top of it put the ingredients one next to the other like the picture shows. Spread sesame seeds on it.

Serve it with soy sauce on the side.

How to eat it

Use chopsticks. Don’t mix everything, you have to eat from one side of the bowl to the other, having rice and the other ingredients together. Don’t eat all the things at the top first because you will end up with just white rice.

I love to eat it with wasabi also!
